School Psychology
With the Masters Program in School Psychology, students at Touro Israel will be able to develop the skills for a career in a highly unique and fulfilling field. The program is designed to both educate students in the methods of assessing and diagnosing problems and abnormalities in students as well as instilling within Masters candidates the leadership skills to make them a vital component in the overall educational experience. Touro Israel students, through courses instructed by recognized experts in the field, are taught to become highly capable school psychologists, skilled in diagnostic tools so that they will be positioned to effectively plan and implement innovative solutions to the most pressing problems facing today’s school children. Specific attention is placed on techniques to improve children’s academic, social, emotional and physical well-being.
Masters candidates will be instructed in advanced research methodologies and studies to enable them to become adept practitioners of these approaches upon entry into the school environment.
A well balanced and carefully thought out curriculum consists of 60 semester hours of required courses. The degree requires that the courses be completed at the Touro College in New York.
Areas covered include education and special education, assessment, diagnosis, counseling and consultation skills. Upon receipt of the Master Degree, graduates will be able to apply for a certificate in school psychology which will allow entry into schools as a certified school psychologist.
The program consists of a three-year period of full time study along with an extensive internship which will allow students to interact with children and gain valuable experience.
By offering the critical skills needed for this dynamic the M.A. program at Touro Israel allows students to be positioned to take on the challenges and opportunities to better help, children, parents and teachers deal with the numerous challenges that arise in the educational framework. Students may take up to one course less than half of their School Psychology Masters degree at touro College in Israel.
